Arthur Bachmann

Composer

Since 1986, Arthur Bachmann has served as a foundational pillar of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, balancing his tenure as a violist with a Juno-nominated career as an Associate Composer of the Canadian Music Centre. Renowned for bridging the gap between performer and audience, his evocative compositions—including acclaimed chamber operas like What Brought Us Here and Annie Davidson, as well as his expansive flute concerto Daughter of Elysium—are deeply rooted in the melody and tonality of the Alberta landscape. By blending contemporary classical idioms with a profound sense of place, Bachmann has established himself as a definitive musical voice for the Canadian Prairies, heard on stages and airwaves across the globe.
