Chris grew up in BC and the Northwest Territories. His first “gig” in Yellowknife for CBC led to studies at the University of Alberta, the University of Toronto, Banff Centre (with the Canadian Brass,) National Youth Orchestra and with Summit Brass in Colorado. Summers at the Sandpoint Festival included coaching from Gunther Schuller, Max Roach, Ray Brown and Winton Marsalis. Chris has played with the Edmonton Symphony, Calgary Phil, Thunder Bay Symphony (5 years as Principal Trumpet), Hamilton Symphony, Royal Winnipeg Ballet Orchestra, National Ballet, and Banff Festival Orchestra. He moved to Calgary in 1980 with the vision of founding Foothills Brass Quintet. Since then, Foothills Brass has performed up to 150 concerts per year in all provinces, most states of the USA, and overseas. As well as concerts in theatres, the quintet has performed for and worked with over one million students. Chris has produced seven Foothills Brass recordings which include many of his own arrangements and solos. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, skiing, camping, and riding his horse in the wonderful Alberta foothills.
