Daniel Pelton

Composer

Daniel Pelton is an award-winning composer and saxophonist from Calgary, Alberta. He began playing saxophone at the age of nine and pursued his musical studies at the University of Calgary, graduating with a Bachelor of Music degree in 2018. Pelton’s work includes creating the funky horn band Long Time No Time and his contemporary chamber group The Daniel Pelton Collective. He has performed with these groups across Western Canada and has recorded his music in various press media worldwide. Pelton’s efforts to create music that pushes boundaries while prioritizing a positive audience experience led him to create the Composer in Residence position with the Calgary Public Library and lead the University of Calgary Jazz Orchestra. His debut album, The Gold Coin Sessions, was recorded during the pandemic and financed by selling a family heirloom. Pelton’s innovative projects and international accolades, including a 2nd Prize in the Caneres International Music Competition and a Best Independent Canadian Music Video award, showcase his talent and commitment to modern music.
