The Rocky Mountain Symphony Orchestra (RMSO) is delighted to announce that Radina Gubeva, Acting Concertmaster, has been named the first recipient of The Kim Raffin Award for Artistic Leadership.

This new honour recognizes an RMSO musician who demonstrates exceptional artistry, leadership, and dedication to the orchestra’s mission. Radina’s musicianship, commitment, and collaborative spirit have inspired both colleagues and audiences alike, setting a high standard for future recipients.

The award was launched by Kim Raffin upon his retirement from the RMSO in 2025, reflecting his deep respect and affection for the orchestra’s musicians — the artists whose passion, talent, and dedication bring the music to life. Kim created the award to celebrate their contributions and to inspire future generations of RMSO musicians.

The selection process included nominations from within the orchestra’s leadership and artistic team, with final review and approval by the RMSO Board of Directors. The award honours a musician whose artistry, initiative, and collegiality have made a lasting impact on the orchestra’s performances and culture.

The three finalists for the inaugural award were Robin Bunker (longtime oboist and English horn), Ross Lemon (founding personnel manager and principal bass), and Radina Gubeva (Acting Concertmaster). All three have exemplified collegiality, generosity, and leadership—supporting their fellow musicians, volunteering their time, and helping to build a positive, professional orchestral culture. The RMSO is deeply grateful for their service, contributions, and musicianship.
